Working Window is part of El Caldo. During the four days that compose El Caldo in Halle at Gessnerallee, we will be holding a space of curiosity, of doing little to listen more. The space will be open on Thursday from 19:00, on Friday and Saturday from 16:00 and on Sunday from 14:00 until 23:00 each day.
This window is a wooden frame on wheels and video camera, designed as a roving set piece to point attention to the mundane and spectacular activities of El Caldo. Additionally, each of the 4 days of El Caldo participants will sit or stand within the frame and focus on each other for a set duration. These 4 time slots will function as a time for concentrated eye contact or focused sensing between us. We will not speak during these times.
MPA (b. 1980) has explored a range of meditative, durational, theatrical, and actionist modes of performance to engage "the energetic" as a potential material in live work. Enriched with ritual and theatricality, her performances and installations critically examine behaviors of power. She has proposed questions on the global arms race, patriarchy as governance, life on another planet, and the dysfunctional union of art with capitalist commodity. MPA's work has been widely exhibited, including the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston, Whitney Museum of American Art, Hammer Museum, Stedelijk Museum, and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca. A frequent collaborator, MPA is a visible muse for many contemporary photographers, painters, and filmmakers. She is a visiting professor at the California Institute of the Arts.
