If you walk upriver towards the southwest and get lucky, you will come across the Ding Dong Dome. Not a place, but rather something temporal, a transient temporality keeping a mysterious object. It generates echoes and resonance chambers, interferences and resonant frequencies, sometimes it shimmers and sometimes it vibrates a little. It smells good.
Based on research with the materiality of bells, their properties and physical affordances, and based on practices with bells as bodies marking time across different epochs, Lucie Tuma’s new work ends up in the now. The now of the Ding Dong Dome is malleable. The intervals between the lull and interruptions are increasingly shrinking. And then, it rings. Ding Dong.
Out of the lull continuity emerges.
Ding Dong Dome is a foretaste of the co-production with Gessnerallee which will premiere on September 25. A warm-up, a space to stop by, to chime in or out, to linger or to withdraw.
