Fatima Moumouni says: «I am a wet dream of intersectionality theory, if you only interpret it sloppily enough! Predestined for all those progressive topics that are so unsettling these days: 'WHAT CAN ONE STILL SAY NOWADAYS?!' That's why I'm invited as a token or messiah to all kinds of events dealing with anti-racism, discrimination, migration and even flight. Absurd, as far as the latter is concerned. I always tell white people that I believe that insecurity in such topics is a good thing because it allows us to take a step back and question. I feel very safe in this position! But if you promote insecurity, you should also be insecure yourself!»
This is exactly what happens in this series, in which Moumouni wants to bring a moment on stage where unpleasant questions are asked to which one may not have the answers at first. And/or moments that are unusual because the speakers reveal a deficit: How do I deal with people I haven't listened to much? Quite unsettling! It's about normalizing, not having to look good when you are addressed about deficits or just not being confident yet. And to look even better because you don't defend yourself so unsexy! So away from a defensive attitude, towards ... what actually?
This time, Daniel Riniker and Sabina Aeschlimann from the collective #BigDreams talk about the artistic interventions around Brian Keller - formerly known and exploited in the media as the "Carlos" case. Brian Keller finished serving his prison sentence for attempted aggravated assault in 2017. Nevertheless, he has continued to sit in prison since then and, according to UN human rights observers and other experts, partly under prison conditions that violate human rights - fueled by a media campaign that macholy denounced a Swiss cozy justice system.
Together with #Bigdreams Fatima Moumouni discusses institutional violence, racism and abolition of the police - but also doubts and insecurities about the activists work and means of the art collective. Afterwards there's head-nodding with rapper ilhan44 from Berlin and dancing at the KUSCHELJUSTIZPARTY with DJ Phltr (Berlin), DJ Verycozi (ZH) and Sabrina Oberlin (Lausanne). Whoever joined the talk can dance for free. People only coming for the concert can get their ticket at the Stall 6.
On top of that, starting this evening, throughout Cycle 14, a stopwatch will hang under our Gessi Octopus light sign. It shows how long Brian Keller has already been in custody without a final sentence. Read more
