In the last years Carolina Mendonça investigated the figure of female warriors. She has been researching the violence feminized bodies suffer and speculating forms of defense through writing, choreography and performatic practices. For this workshop Mendonça would like to share the expanded frame of this research as a way to engage in collective discussions and practices. This encounter will be a performatic study around notions of violence, the challenges of the relation between autobiography and storytelling, the complex temporalities of violence, the multiple subject positions, and most importantly the aesthetic and performatic grounds of dealing with such topics.
Investigating the ways in which bodies are affected by different forms of violence, the audience and Mendonça will gather through practices of perception, reading, moving, listening and collective modes of conversations. Participants will speculate how to imagine and rehearse forms of fighting through a feminist perspective on violence. What histories, stories, narratives and perspectives are stuck to one’s flesh? How can we get in touch with the weight they carry in their bodies? Can the training of imagination be a political work? What kind of traces does such conversations leave behind?
There will be a talk with Catalina Insignares and the dramaturge Joshua Wicke after the event.
