A group of young people have had enough - enough listening and waiting - they finally want change! Inspired by the lifestyles of the state-building insects, they build a heap and try out their own forms of living together in it.
In the annual project 22/23, the LAB deals with human coexistence, taking the insects as a starting point. The teenagers from the LAB draw parallels between ant states and democracy, investigate the laws of movement in swarms of bees and acquire their ability to overcome borders worldwide. "No borders, no nations!" But ants, termites and the honey bee also form states. The communities of socially living insects are characterised by division of labour, complex communication and self-organisation.
And how do humans live together? What kind of work do humans do and what kind of work do they leave to others? What roles do people play in everyday life and what roles do they want to play? How do they communicate? With whom and against whom do they ally? And who actually makes the decisions?
The LAB is convinced that insects do a lot of things right and wants to learn from them. So without further ado, the young people build a pile and practise a different kind of cooperation. To do this, they communicate via vibrations and scents, build blindly as a collective, let themselves be guided by light, conspire and put their individual needs so far aside that they become a swarm. Over time, their bodies change: they grow fine hairs that sense their surroundings, corneas turn into armour and toxic secretions form in their glands.

The performance on Saturday 1 July at 4 pm is a family performance. Children from 8 years and abovee are especially welcome in the audience then. There will be free childcare during this performance for younger children. The kids will have the opportunity to engage with the fascinating world of insects by drawing, doing handicrafts or playing with two experienced art educators.
Age recommendation: From the age of 8 you can watch the play together with an accompanying person. The childcare is offered to kids from the age of 3.
