Sumia Juxun is a poet, producer and educator currently based between Rotterdam, London and Toronto. She often writes about memory, rituals of departure and the cyclical process of leaving. Her poem ‘Passports as Freedom Papers I’ was shortlisted for The White Review Poet’s Prize 2022 and ‘Before Leaving’ won the FourHubs’ 2018 Poetry Prize. Sumia is a Barbican Young Poet Alumni and the Founder of SAWTI (East African Literary Project). She is a Creative Writing and Education MA graduate from Goldsmith, University of London and previously presented research at the Sound and Silence Conference (Goldsmith) and Making (in) the Unforeseen Conference (WdKA).
