Levin Stettler Brogli is a visual artist and fine art graduate from ZHdK. For Charmlore, they are re-curating their light installation ‘’Working on my aura’’. Light has been associated with the divine since the beginning of mankind, whether the prayers had been spoken to fire or the sun. Levin uses literal „figures of light“ and questions their ambiguous nature. They are great deceivers but also revealers of truth. They are utilizing gobos; a technique mainly used in advertising, consisting of a small plate that is put into a projector which then creates a bigger image of light. A pop-cultural reference would be the bat signal, the projection used to call the anti-hero for help. Levin’s pieces are referring to to the notion of spiritual Kōans. The simple dotwork of the projected figures holds a certain childlike attitude that evokes trust or even a sensation of warmth. Even if the images show uncanny creatures, they appear likeable and playful, questioning whether the viewer is seeing them for what they really are: Plotters, schemers, demons or nothing but a mere mirror? My images appear as beacons of betterment which literally light the way, but once you step closer the content of my affirmations is more nuanced after all. Simple statements of courage and faith mix with questions, statements, or just words that evoke confrontative feelings that the slight but precise poke of a reality check brings.
